John H. Thompson Lecture

At this lecture we learned about how a studio space is also a personal space. Whenever he talked I felt as though John is still a kid at heart. his lecture was a little mono-toned, but some of the projects that he's done were amazing
What I really took from this lecture was that your studio space should be a place were you always work, even if you're not producing for  commission , just continued to think and create

And the Winner IS>>>>>>>>ANDrew WARHOLA ?!?!

Yes Andy Warhol's real name is Andrew Warhola,  born in August 6 1928....watch out...he's a LEO roar!!!
Andy was born in Pittsburgh, Pa  and did more than just pop art... he was a painter, printmaker, filmmaker , and commercial illustrator....He was a great contribute to the modern and pop art movement

2 weeks ago...... tuesday lecture

OK ...so last week we learned about classes and how to pick them... and that's something that I already know (ha being here for THREE years and what not)
....Anyway, I actually learned some short cuts for how to pick classes and how to see if seats are open for another class.
ANoTher thing....I panicked about my schedule because I thought that I had 20 credits worth of classes and I didn't so I dropped a class anyway and now my life is infinitely better.
awww... I feel (some not all) weight being lifted off of me...I can't wait for next year to come =]

I ThiNk thAT thE VOices IN mY HEad aRe StatING to MAke Sense....Tuesday Lecture: Doug Bucci

Today in the lecture Doug Bucci slapped me in the face with the most influential information for my career, my life, and sanity... He has just made light bulbs and the voices in the back of my head that speak to me (talk about going crazy =] ) make sense. THANKS DOUG!!!!

FUnNy StORy- When I first met Doug I was actually taking a jewelry intro class and I made a rose letter opener, but on the last night of me working I had to make rivet and a teacher had to over see me using the band saw...well... Doug was that teacher and he wouldn't allow me to use the saw but said that he would, I looked at him like he was crazy lol... and he said "trust me I know what I'm doing" and I responded with "I don't know you therefore... no" five minutes later one of the grads students approached me and said "Do you know who that is?!?! that's Doug Bucci, he's an international artist" and I laughed and said "I don't care who he is I just can't let anyone do my work for me"... HA AHA I think that feeling has changed =]

But what Doug Lectured about was so weird because it was as though he was reminding me of what I am going through as an artist and also what I know already in order to further my career and life....He talked about how his old teachers are the heroes and ghost of his life that whisper lessons he's learned from them everyday. When he said that , I thought he knew the story of my life!!!! I thought that I was crazy for thinking that, but by him saying that .... it brought me back down to earth. Also he changed his career from painting to jewelry and became very successful... I changed from Business Law to Fibers. Making that decision was very substantial in my life, and just hearing that he went back to what he knew made me happy about what I am doing.

Doug also talked about being uncomfortable in your environment , for this allows you to stay on your toes thus makes you do your best which is so true.

...... I really enjoyed DOug BUcci and i think that i must stop myself for this post would go on for days.... but some other things that he did talk about were:
1. Having Patience and how important it is to do so
2. Listen to yourself... which is SOOOO true =] and I believe that I must do this more in order to shine and truly be myself.....
3.Time Management-How it is very important to be on top of time when dealing with projects ...which I am working on now, but no one is perfect
4.Research, take what you know and use it in everything you do, use it as a focal point- this is when the voices started to yell "I toll your Ass!!!!!" or "See SEE SEE!!!! I TOLD YOU!!!! You should listen to me more!!!" lol.... My 2D teacher Rob Goodman is teaching this to my class now... seeing DOug's pieces and how he put what we were learning into action made me very pleased and eased to know that people REaLLy do use this process
5. Finally- Your pieces of art that you/ master make over the years are artifacts... you must look back and use them in order to master what you are doing now in order to succeed

..........=] well  you can tell that I REALLY enjoyed listing to DOug BUcci best lecture thus far

TuEsDaY!!!!! Lecture

Did I every you that I was going to be named Tuesday????
....anyway this lecture was very interesting the artist that visited us was Marianne Dages. She's a UArts Grad of Photography, but her journey has led her to printmaking/ book making, which I found to be very fascinating because she is now doing something different than what she loves (so I assume) which was photography. Marianne lectured about what it takes to create a studio and the processes that she went through in order to get where she is now. One thing that she mentioned that was intriguing was the residencies that she and her friends all got. she also talked about the Penland School of Craft,  a school that's in North Carolina which seemed awesome for it allowed all of the students to focus only on one art that they would then perfect because they would be isolated and working 24/7 on their project of that subject. I would love to go there.
also her book binding was pretty cool =] and her company name was Huldra Press
I think that I will name him Winker =]....

I REALLY REALLY enjoyed this project... it wasn't as intimidating as it looks. Also once I got the hang of using the different tools ....  making Winker was created like second nature
